Davos 2022: Setting the Future of World Economic Pathway
By S R Ranjan: Davos 2022 takes the center stage in world affairs as a starting point for a new era of global responsibility and cooperation to build back better — a resilient economy based on sustainable practices, nature-based solutions and circularity.
Leaders from around the world meet at Davos, Switzerland, 22-26 May 2022, for the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting 2022, centered around the theme, ‘History at a Turning Point: Government Policies and Business Strategies’ to tackle global issues and find solutions to the world's biggest challenges — ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic, poverty, inequality, fragmented global economy and market, impacts of higher energy prices, disruptions in supply chains, uncertainty about the food security, the environmental costs on the planet and climate change challenges — that matter to the world and calls for global action as the ‘decade of action’.
As the world still grapples with aftershocks of the Covid-19 pandemic in the midst of the geo-political turmoil and geo-economic complexities, top leaders from politics, business, civil society, academia, NGOs, social entrepreneurs, labor organizations, religious groups, media, arts and the younger generations come together to address urgent global humanitarian and security challenges, set world economic, environmental and societal priorities to reinforce the foundations of a stable global system.
Against the backdrop of a once-in-a-century pandemic, the meet is an action-oriented global platform for a new era of collective action to deal with global issues — economy, society, equity, education and global health; nature, food and climate; industry and technology transformation; global policy frameworks, governance and sustainable development goals. “The fact that nearly 2,500 leaders from politics, business, civil society and media come together in person demonstrates the need for a trusted, informal and action-oriented global platform to confront the issues in a crisis-driven world,” said Klaus Schwab, executive chairman, World Economic Forum.
The Davos 2022 meeting is an opportunity to accelerate progress in tackling global challenges and improve the state of the world. According to the WEF, the focus is on setting strategies for impact, building new frontiers, creating viable future scenarios and providing ambitious solutions to world's biggest issues.
